The Innovation, Concept Development and Experimentation (ICD&E) Branch is responsible to:

• develop doctrines, publications, standards, procedures and other documents, to facilitate a common understanding in fulfilling SP activities accordingly with NATO strategic challenges;
• organize, coordinate and supervise research activities in the field of SP in concepts and doctrinal development;
• facilitate collection and analysis of relevant data and disseminate information products in the area of innovation, concept development and experimentation.

The Innovation and Concept Development Section (ICD) is tasked to:

• conduct research activities, with specific focus on developing, enhancing and innovating NATO SP doctrine area of expertise, accordingly with NATO strategic concept and evolving challenges;
• support the development of NATO and national policies and practices which require SP expertise through the application of rigorous process of validation of the proposed concepts;
• foster and support NATO SP COE efforts in developing publications, procedures and all other conceptual productions in order to facilitate the development of the doctrine of SP.

The Experimentation Section (ES) is tasked to:

• observe, collect, analyse and assess SP activities related to experimentation in NATO, Nations and Partners;
• engage in specific experimentation initiatives related to new concepts, to grant the fully meet of NATO requirements;
• propose amendments to specific doctrine, standards and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) fully meeting NATO requirements, based on research and experimentation activities.
